Top Twenty Invitational on Tuesday evening, September 30
Twenty beagles from each variety will be invited to compete in the “Top Beagle” event at the 2008 National Specialty. The selection of Top 20 participants for both 13” and 15” varieties will be based on AKC records taken from AKC reports, for the time period of Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2007 and will be based on Breed points.
A panel of three judges will judge this event, announced at the onset of this event: one all-rounder, one handler and one breeder. The winner will be announced at the Awards Dinner as the “Top Beagle.” Attendees will vote for the “People’s Choice” award which will be announced immediately following the event.
The event offers a chance to view the “Cream of the Crop.” Judged using a scale of points, each beagle is evaluated according to how closely it conforms to the breed standard. The dogs will be judged from a positive approach instead of a fault-based method. All three judges will be in the ring at the same time. The beagle will enter on one side of the ring and eventually exit through the opposite side of the ring to enable us to keep the judging moving.
Invitations will be sent by First Class Mail by no later than May 15. There is an Entry Fee of $75 that must be returned by Tuesday, July 1, with the Entry Profile Sheet. The entry fee entitles each participant to one catalog, two reserved ringside seats, a Top Beagle rosette and a two-page catalog spread that includes one photo and a three generation pedigree.
A catalog, prepared exclusively for the Top Beagle Event, will be available for purchase just prior to the scheduled starting time of the event. Contents of the catalog include a two-page spread highlighting each dog in the Top Beagle Competition, score sheets, judging material, and a profile on each judge. Pre-order catalogs are $15, which includes two free admission tickets. Catalogs purchased at the door are $15. Admission is $7 per person at the door. Catalogs that are pre-ordered and mailed are $15.
Noise level must be kept to a minimum and no flash photography is permitted until after judging is completed.
Top 20 Chair: Floss Billger and Top 20 Secretary: Debbie Tissot.
